The Good Friday Battle.

The Good Friday Battle, on April 2, 2010, was a firefight during the German Armed Forces' deployment in Afghanistan between a paratrooper unit and radical Islamist Taliban fighters. The Taliban were supported by the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Three paratroopers were killed in the battle. The Good Friday Battle marked the first time since World War II that German soldiers had been involved in prolonged combat with their own casualties.

Sergeant Major Nils Bruns (35 years old), Corporal Robert Hartert (25 years old), and Corporal Martin Augustyniak (28 years old), all from Parachute Battalion 373, were killed in action on Good Friday. Eight other soldiers were seriously wounded.

A memorial march, initiated by Bundeswehr veteran Pierre Lindholm (NATOVET), commemorates the Good Friday battle of April 2, 2010, and the fallen soldiers. Today, well over 10,000 soldiers, veterans, and civilians participate in the marches.

    Our marching group in pictures.

As in previous years, we ran around the Aasee lake in Ibbenbüren again this year. The route is very flat and well-suited for participants with disabilities.

We thank everyone who participated again!
