Information about ATEKeV
My husband suffered from complex PTSD due to his numerous deployments in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Pakistan, which presents us with many challenges in our daily lives.
I started writing about my everyday dealings with the daily effects of PTSD in October 2022, initially anonymously on Instagram under the name wife of a combat veteran.
The enormous support from like-minded people quickly showed me that there is no concrete help from public authorities in this area.
No consistent support from the German Armed Forces, no therapeutic support for relatives, and no information whatsoever about what it is like to live with a combat veteran suffering from PTSD.
The many positive responses quickly made it clear to me that there is a great need for help and information.
So I decided to start an online self-help group for relatives of veterans/emergency service personnel. Initially, I simply wanted to offer a peer-to-peer exchange with relatives who are all in the same boat, sharing the same experiences, burdens, and worries.
To put the project "Wife of a Veteran" and the online self-help group on a good foundation, I trained to become a certified psychological first responder and a leader of self-help groups.
My intention is to help, to support, and to let every family member know that they are not alone.
This website aims to provide information and assistance to help veterans/emergency personnel better manage PTSD in their daily lives.
The target group of the project are wives, husbands, relatives, sons and daughters, partners, friends and acquaintances who support traumatized veterans and emergency personnel, whether military, THW, police or rescue service, on a daily basis and share the burdens.
